Driftwood lamp
Descrição
This extraordinary driftwood lamp is a true piece of ocean history, crafted from wood that was once part of a shipping pallet and spent countless years in the sea. The wood is richly textured with intricate shipworm holes, adding unique character and testament to its long journey through the ocean.
Shipworms are marine mollusks, often called "termites of the sea," that burrow into submerged wood, such as driftwood, docks, and ships. Unlike woodworms, which are terrestrial larvae of beetles that consume dry wood, shipworms are saltwater-dwelling bivalves (related to clams) that bore through wood underwater, using specialized shells to scrape tunnels. They live in and feed on the wood but need the marine environment to survive.
Driftwood products like lamps made from wood affected by shipworms do not pose a risk of introducing these pests into your home. Once removed from the saltwater environment, shipworms cannot survive in dry conditions, and any wood used in products is thoroughly dried and treated, making it safe for indoor use.
Fitted with a dimmable filament bulb, this lamp allows you to adjust the lighting to create the perfect ambiance. The dimmer is seamlessly integrated into a fabric-coated black cable, combining functionality with modern design. A brass lamp fitting adds a touch of elegance, beautifully contrasting with the rugged, weathered wood. Ideal for bedside tables, desks, or living spaces, this lamp brings the beauty of reclaimed materials and the mystery of the ocean into your home.
